Firewise Meeting                                                                                                                                 March 12, 2025

LCMC Board Room

Zoom meeting was called to order at 10:00am by President Alec Pennington

Present were board members: Alec Pennington, Kathy Stafford, Gary Nelson, Dave Peterson, Dennis Wicks. Gregg Dahman attended via Zoom and left the meeting at 10:45am.

Community member attendees: Donna O’Leary, Al Wurth and Paul Bogacz.

Special guest attending was LCMC GM Dawn Lower.

With a motion by Gary and a second from Dave, the minutes of the February 12th, 2025, meeting were approved.

Treasurer Report – Gary Nelson.

The Treasurer’s Report had been previously published separately. With a motion to approve by Dave and a 2nd by Kathy, the Financial Report was approved.

At the last meeting, questions arose regarding Kroger Rewards program – what it is, how sign up, is it on our website. It was also proposed to include info on the Firewise newsletter should we get one up and running. Dennis was to research and get back to us.

Old Business

Dennis – update research Firewise newsletter    No update provided

Dennis – update build of model home/landscaping display   No update provided

Alec – confirmed date for WPD as May 10, 2025, 12-3

Alec – update speaker status.  One confirmed; still seeking second speaker

Alec – update source of fire resistant plants for WPD.  Confirmed working with Whitney Gardens in Brinnon.  They are sourcing plants and will get back to us with availability and pricing. They can provide storage until needed and can provide delivery when needed.

Alec – update status of info for Kroger Rewards on LCFW Website. Confirmed on website

Alec – update CWDG.  Eligibility status changed 7 days before deadline resulting in loss of eligibility for LCMC.  LCMC is working to establish a standing Grants committee to continue work to obtain grants and create needed documentation to pursue needs.

Alec – update merger with CERT; legal meeting not until March 19.

Alec/Gary – have started updating address markers that have Div/Lot # instead of address. Gary went out with Paul Bogacz to train him and they did several markers.

Gary – updated status of raffle items for WPD

Assessment training – no updated info

WPD planning – no new info

Storage tubs in shed – still need to fill

New Business

St. Germain Church is interested in partnering with us for Disaster Preparedness Day in the fall. Donna O’Leary from the church attended the meeting and discussed how we can work together. It was decided to hold the day in the community room at St. Germain on Sept 6, 2025 from 12-3 pm.  Donna is offering her services in planning, and marketing the event.

Kathy Stafford had previously approached Asia Cline at PUD 3 about attending the Disaster Preparedness day and asked them to bring their table top Disaster Planning table to the event.  Alec will contact Asia with the date and confirm there attendance.

WPD – we discussed the need for volunteers signed up to help with running the day. Gary indicated he would like help sending out emails to our volunteer list to try and get people to help. Peggy Pennington has indicated she will help with handing out the plants we get from Whitney Gardens.

Arts & Craft day – per Dawn Lower, the new Golf manager is still coming to grasps with the job and does not have the bandwidth to take this on this year so no event is planned for 2025.

Firewise Shed – the weather is getting better so we need to be planning work to finish out the trim and painting of the shed.

At 12:00 Gary motioned we adjourn, Kathy seconded, all approved and the meeting ended.

Next regular meeting will be on April 9, 2025, at 10:00 am in the LCMC Boardroom.
